The Headies & U.S. Consulate: A Global Partnership in African Music

Gratitude & Forward Momentum!

The Headies’ collaboration with the U.S. Consulate has greatly increased Nigerian music’s visibility internationally over the last three years. The Headies’ historic 2022 relocation to Atlanta marked the start of this partnership and made it the first African music awards show to be held in the US.

The support of the U.S. Consulate was crucial in promoting deeper cultural and professional exchanges between Nigeria and the U.S. as well as in making these historic editions possible.

The Headies triumphantly returned to Lagos in 2025 with the theme “Back to Base,” which was commemorated with a private reception at the home of the U.S. Consul General. This event highlighted the show’s function as a bridge across continents by bringing together industry leaders, legislators, and music icons. By highlighting programs like the American Music Mentorship Programme, which links Nigerian musicians with American business executives, U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills reaffirmed America’s commitment to assisting Nigeria’s creative sector.

This partnership has enhanced Nigerian creatives’ opportunities and reinforced cultural diplomacy and economic ties through live performances, high-level networking, and the recognition of both established and up-and-coming artists. In terms of cooperation, creativity, and worldwide influence in African music, the Headies and the US Consulate keep setting new standards.
